The proposed changes would affect portions of Fremont Street, East Valley Road, Sunrise Pass Road, and Buckeye Road.

Under the first ordinance, certain heavy truck traffic would be restricted or redirected away from roads the county says are lower-condition, partially unpaved, or less suitable for large commercial vehicles. County staff say the goal is to direct trucks toward routes better equipped to handle heavier traffic while reducing wear and tear on smaller collector roads.

A second ordinance would reduce speed limits on portions of Fremont Street and East Valley Road. Officials say the proposed reductions are tied to residential access, pavement conditions, and overall traffic safety concerns.

According to county documents, the changes are intended to better align these roads with others in Douglas County that already operate under lower speed limits due to neighborhood density and roadway conditions.

If approved, the county would install approximately seven traffic signs for each ordinance at an estimated one-time cost of about $4,200 per ordinance.

The proposals come as east valley areas continue to see increasing traffic activity tied to population growth, commuting patterns, and ongoing development pressures throughout Douglas County.

The ordinances are currently being introduced for presentation only, with additional discussion and possible future action expected at upcoming commission meetings.
