Who is behind Garminoa?
Hi, I’m Gianna.
I’m Nevada-born and raised right here in Carson Valley. I graduated from Douglas County schools and later attended UNR, where I stayed to teach freshman classes. I’m also a mom of two, and no matter where life has taken me, this community has always remained a big part of who I am.
One of the things I’ve always loved most about Carson Valley is the people. I’ve seen first-hand how neighbors show up for each other, often without hesitation and without expecting anything in return. There’s a family feel here that can be hard to describe unless you’ve experienced it.
Some of my favorite memories are rooted here too. I met my best friend in kindergarten, and after all these years we’re still close and still spending time together in the same community where we grew up.
Garminoa actually began in February 2026 from a desire to stay connected to the valley and continue being part of the community I’ve always loved. But it quickly became more than that.
I also wanted to create a way for others to feel connected.
And if you’ve ever wondered where the name came from, there’s a story behind that too. Garminoa combines Gardnerville, Minden, and Genoa. The idea was inspired by Garminada (the Douglas County yearbooks many locals remember) which represented Gardnerville, Minden, and Nevada. I wanted a name that felt local and belonged to the communities it was created for.
That’s why Garminoa isn't just about posting updates. It’s about introducing people to one another and sharing stories that might otherwise go unnoticed.
From Mother’s Day and Father’s Day features, to highlighting local events, introducing community members, and sharing stories like the upcoming Ranch Rodeo feature with Amber, the goal has always been simple: create a stronger sense of community.
Because communities are built through people. Through stories. Through showing up for each other.
